What TEFL / TESOL Certification Do I Need to Teach in the United States?

The minimum TEFL / TESOL certification requirement for teaching jobs in the United States is 120 hours.

OnTESOL is accredited by ACCET (U.S Department of Education recognized agency). All the TEFL / TESOL courses offered by OnTESOL are valid for ESL teaching jobs with U.S. language schools throughout the United States.  The separate Practicum module is not a standard requirement, but language schools in the United States prefer to hire teachers who have previous ESL teaching experience or completed a 20-hour Practicum.

For teaching jobs with public K-12 schools, candidates must have a minimum of a state-approved teaching license or a BA/MA degree in Education. The TEFL / TESOL certification is a secondary requirement for K-12 positions in the United States.

Recommended for the United States: The 168-hour Hybrid TEFL Certificate will train you to teach English to adults and young learners in the United States. This online TEFL course is perfect for candidates from the United States who want a credential that gives them flexibility to go abroad, teach online, or qualify for teaching jobs at home.
